It’s been nearly eight months since we last had a teaser for Season 3 of “The Orville” and over three years since the Season 2 finale.
That teaser actually had the third season premiere on March 10, but unfortunately that was postponed. Our patience will be rewarded, however, as the crew of the USS Orville will be back in action on our screens in a few moments. weeks now on the Hulu streaming service.
A lot has changed since April 2019, when season two of “The Orville” ended, and sadly, the world lost the comedic genius Norm MacDonald, who provided the voice of Lt. Yaphet, the gelatin engineer, pronounced. However, according to Deadline, he shot all of his scenes before tragically losing his battle with cancer last September, so this will be one of his last appearances.
Other questions to consider before the first episode, titled “Electric Sheep,” which airs on June 2, is whether Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) has now been promoted to admiral, especially after pitting the Planetary Union fleet against the Kaylon. led in the Battle of Earth and make a tentative peace with Krill after that epic battle…? Perhaps he will undergo an emotional self-evaluation, much like Admiral Kirk does in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”
Certainly Lt. cmdr. Has Bortus (Peter Macon) divorced from Klyden (Chad L. Coleman)? And possibly even a dagger driven through his chest, as Moclans is filing for divorce this way. Will Talla Keyali (Jessica Szohr)’s superpower gradually diminish like Alara Kitan’s (Halston Sage)?
All of these questions and more may or may not be answered on June 2.
One of the many, many beautiful things about “The Orville” is Seth MacFarlane’s extensive interest in the score, which uses not only the influences of “The Next Generation” but also James Horner’s epic score for “Star Trek II” and “Star Trek III” and occasionally even “Star Wars”.
Also, let’s not forget the incredible list of Who’s Who in Hollywood who have directed episodes of “The Orville” to date, including Brannon Braga, Jonathan Frakes, Robert Duncan McNeill, and even Jon Favreau.
