USFL Week 7: Stallions top Maulers, place for play-offs

The Birmingham stallions are not only the USFLs only undefeated team after beating the Pittsburgh Maulers on Sunday they are now also a playoff team.

The Stallions (7-0) secured a spot in the postseason with a hard-fought win, a win for which Bo Scarbrough was in a 100m rush and four field goals from Brandon Aubrey.

The Stallions are the second team to secure a playoff spot, after the New Jersey Generals, who won on Saturday.

Birmingham Stallions 26, Pittsburgh Maulers 16

After stopping the Maulers on the opening stage of the game, the Stallions came first on the board with a field goal from Aubrey. The kick was set up by a beautiful 53-meter pass from quarterback J’Mar Smith to Victor Bolden.

The catch made Bolden the first player to accumulate 1,000 all-purpose yards this season.

However, the Maulers hit back and took the lead on a 4-yard dive from Madre London.

The defense of Pittsburgh continued to give the Stallions convulsions, as evidenced by Nasir Player’s major looting. Moments later, the Maulers added a field goal to their score to take a 10-3 lead.

Aubrey van de Stallions scored a field goal late in the first half, giving the Maulers a 10-6 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Stallions came out like a spear. First Bo Scarbrough went for a big win on the ground.

Then, after the Maulers came down fourth, Birmingham dug into his bag of tricks – Bobby Holly fumbled 52 yards for a touchdown on a fake punt.

Birmingham is doing what it can to go undefeated, and it came up with a clutch courtesy of Willie Yarbary to hold his opponent against a FG.

Aubrey helped take advantage of the crucial defensive play with a fine 42m field goal to push Birmingham into a 16-13 lead.

Birmingham struck again midway through the fourth, this time punching CJ Marable in the midsection.

Pittsburgh brought itself inside a TD with a massive 58 yards power kick from Ramiz Ahmed.

However, Birmingham struggled and got another conversion from his own kicker, bringing in another FG to stay perfect on the day.

The kick brought the Stallions to 26-16, a tie that lasted until the end of the game. Birmingham hit his ticket to the play-offs and improved to 7-0 with the win.
