My company has been developing apps for the past 3 years and I can tell you that it has never been easier since the introduction of APIs. It’s helped us stay productive, work with useful data, inject innovation – the list goes on. But I’m not here to go on and on about the benefits of APIs, so let’s get started right away.

Here are some popular APIs my company has used for various businesses:

  • Alexa Skills Management API: Use it to create, manage and test new skills for Alexa, Amazon’s smart digital assistant, and to improve her skills.
  • Google Assistant API: Allows you to embed Google’s smart assistant in a range of devices.
  • Salesforce Einstein Language API: Used to analyze and classify text from various sources based on sentiments.
  • Anaconda API: This API, powered by Python, is a scalable and secure enterprise-level API used to manage data science resources.
  • REST Countries API: Retrieves information about any country in the world. Access information such as the capital, currency, language and more!
  • polygon API: Helps when working with financial data as it can collect data like stock prices, historical performance, etc. It also works with cryptocurrencies.
  • Associated Press API: For when you want to integrate real-time news and alerts from trusted sources.
  • wit.ai API: To enable your website to be voice-activated using text-to-speech functionality. Responsive Voice API is an alternative to Wit.ai.
  • Amazon Selling Partner API: It provides all the legacy features available on the Amazon Market Web Services.
  • ForecastIO: Used by developers and data scientists to build predictive models using machine learning.
  • Checkered API: To enable users to link their bank accounts without sharing any information on the platform.
  • GIPHY API: For when you want to add GIPHY’s entire library of GIFs.
  • Spotify API: to play music, share artist/band details, discover music, create playlists and more!

Now to the other part of the question, how can they be improved with AI? Well, this is where it gets interesting.

Technologies like AI and ML are making API smarter in more ways than one. For starters, AI can contribute to the API design process and make it more streamlined. You can also use AI to set up rules-based triggers based on preset conditions used from API historical data. Likewise, AI engines can automatically manage thresholds and adjust them to pattern-based values to increase efficiency. And it goes without saying that once you get the human element out of the picture, there’s less chance of errors and inaccuracies.

That said, beyond routine API management, AI can come in handy in strengthening API security. The various authentication measures, throttling options and static security checks close the gaps in API’s armor.

All in all, it would be the same benefits of API – only better! I would say the introduction of AI in API is nothing less than a transformative change in development!
