ROG Citadel XV Adds Stunning Free Parkour Action With SCAR Runner DLC

You may already know ASUS’ ROG (Republic of Gamers) for their range of high-end, gaming-focused PCs and laptops, but did you know they also have a game? It’s true! ROG Citadel XV is a free FPS with a ton of different minigames and genres to play in, and a free DLC has just been added that throws even more action into the mix.

The SCAR Runner DLC introduces parkour-focused levels into the mix, tasking you with navigating a series of increasingly difficult levels and solving puzzles as you go. Some puzzles will be particularly tricky, but all hope is not lost – the answers may very well be hidden on the new ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE laptop, as long as you have the right tools to find them.

There’s even a giveaway to celebrate the launch of the SCAR Runner DLC, with prizes like a brand new SCAR 17 SE laptop and a complete fringe pack. There’s a lot to unpack here – let’s start by taking a closer look at the game.

ROG Citadel XV, as mentioned before, is a single-player FPS set in the distant future, and lets you join the GAMERs and play in the sci-fi like fortress. Not only is there a cute little robot called Omni to show you around, but you can also try out a variety of different weapons in the shooting gallery and get a closer look at some of the latest real-world ROG hardware and peripherals in this virtual space.

ROG has been steadily adding more and more to the game, including mini-games that let you try out different game genres, such as top-down arena shooters and pinball machines, along with updated products to play with and get a closer look at. And the SCAR Runner DLC will take players out of HQ and into the wider world.

SCAR Runner continues the storyline of previous releases and sends you to Goemon City to solve the puzzle of a cryptic message sent to the GAMERs. Goemon City is a beautiful neon-lit place filled with parkour courses to navigate and puzzles to solve if you want to understand the meaning of the message, and it will really put your first-person platforming skills to the test.

We’re talking lasers to dodge, massive walls to run across, massive leaps of confidence, and a reliable whip you can deploy to pull you to certain points in the world. And you have a clock that continuously ticks as you run, speeding you up to score truly unbeatable times on your runs. It’s intense stuff, but for the platform thrill seekers out there, it’ll push you to the limit as you shave seconds off each run.

You will also have to solve some puzzles as you go along, in addition to the puzzle of how to get from A to B as quickly as possible. Some of these puzzles require some out-of-the-box thinking, which is a perfect fit for ROG’s latest laptop.

ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE is a sleek and seriously powerful piece of kit, featuring up to 16-core Intel® Core™ i9-12950HX, the fastest mobile processor available, capable of boosting frequencies of 5.2GHz and amazing single thread has and multi-thread performance.

You can also have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and 128GB RAM, and you have the choice between a 360Hz/3ms FHD display or a 240HZ/3ms QHD display, so you can watch even the most intense games. It has super-fast storage, with up to four SSDs, and even the external connections are blazingly fast, with support for Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 6E, and PCIe Gen 5.

But the SCAR 17 has another little secret: the clues to solve SCAR Runner’s most difficult puzzles. These clues are hidden in plain sight, but you’ll need a UV flashlight to see them properly. Who knows what you might discover?

Of course, you’ll need your own SCAR 17 to unravel the secrets, but ROG is offering a chance to win that and more with their giveaway. Until June 30, five winners will get their hands on the laptop, while four winners will receive a peripheral bundle containing the ROG Strix XG27AQM, ROG Gladius III Wireless, ROG Scabbard II and ROG Fusion II 500.

There’s more on offer, of course, including stylish ROG merchandise and even a ROG Phone 5s. You can also have fun while entering as the competition only asks you to play ROG Citadel XV for about 12 minutes to get your first entry, with five more entries as you complete other tasks in the giveaway widget.

You can visit the SCAR Runner website for more information about the game and how to enter the giveaway. And even if you don’t currently own a ROG PC or laptop, you can download ROG Citadel XV completely free of charge on Steam and play the SCAR Runner DLC today. Grab your laser whip and put on your running shoes – it’s time to head to Goemon City and post top times.
