New unlimited test drive game is next generation only

Nacon confirms that his upcoming racing game Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is only aimed at next-gen systems.

In 2020, France-based publisher Nacon announced a brand new entry in the open-world racing series, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown† The developer behind the wheel of this game is fellow French developer Kylotonn, responsible for other racing games such as the WRC series, which was also published by Nacon. Unlike most racing games, Test Drive Unlimited Solar CrownThe premise is focused on a high-end lifestyle, especially with regard to fashionable appearances and luxury car brands. These include Ferraris, Bugattis and Lamborghinis, which give players the chance to be sleek and stylish car owners.

Last year’s trailer of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown focused on these aspects, focusing on the stylishly painted cars, the luxurious surroundings and the lifestyle that people of this caliber would participate in. A recent blog post from the developers of the game describes that the player will participate in a clan war on Hong Kong Island, where they choose to join the Streets of the Sharps. These two clans will go head-to-head in the Solar Crown competition, aiming to impose their own lifestyle over the others. One of the most important details that the Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown team notes that Nacon would discontinue development on the PS4 and Xbox One platforms. According to the blog post, this was due to the team wanting to take advantage of the technology available on the next-gen consoles and “maximize” the quality of the game. The Switch version appears to be still in development, although it could be a more compressed version to fit the portable hybrid console.

However, another big announcement would be that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will now aim for a 2023 release date. The team said that since the game has received a lot of support from fans, this delay is meant to polish it up for its many fans to enjoy. However, so as not to leave fans disappointed, the team states that this additional development time will allow fans to get involved in a series of beta tests.
