Kylian Mbappe took to social media on Sunday to explain his decision to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain rather than continue his career at Real Madrid. The France international confirmed his decision on Saturday before scoring a hat-trick against FC Metz at Parc des Princes in a 5-0 Ligue 1 win. In a written message the following day, the 23-year-old discussed his choice to extend his stay in France until 2025 and Real’s interest in the build-up to next week’s UEFA Champions League final in Paris.

“Since I was young, instead of dreaming my life, I have preferred to live my dream,” said Mbappé. “It is not only a choice, but also a principle and a privilege. Since I was young, I have preferred to develop challenge after challenge. Since I was young, I have built a path to the peaks, which is always a strict line of conduct, but always adhered to. From an early age I have been driven by the same passion and ambition.

“Sometimes I was greeted with incomprehension, but I took it politely. Today I want to announce that I have chosen to renew my contract with PSG. I am convinced that I can continue to develop here at a club that has the resources to I want to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaifi for his trust, for listening and for his patience.I am also thinking of PSG fans in France and around the world for their messages of affection over the past few months.

“I also want to sincerely thank Real Madrid and its president Florentino Perez. I recognize my happiness and privilege that I was sought by such an institution. I have no doubt about their disappointment. It was the biggest hesitation. I will be their first fan for the Champions League final in Paris, my home. I am very happy that I can continue to develop in France, my native country that has seen me grow. It has also given me the opportunity to follow my dreams.”

Mbappe’s decision to stay with PSG will revolutionize the Ligue 1 champions. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo are expected to be replaced soon. The club from the French capital held a press conference on Monday afternoon with both Mbappé and Al-Khelaifi, who are expected to appear in the Parc des Princes.

Former AS Monaco and Lille OSC talent spotter Luis Campos is expected to be the first newcomer and fulfill Leonardo’s role in shaping Les Parisiens’ project on the pitch. Mbappé stormed into the football world as the Portuguese oversaw Les Monegasques’ short-lived rise to one of Europe’s most attractive teams when they defeated PSG for the Ligue title in 2017.
