Amber Heard gave Johnny Depp a large knife as a gift during the early days of their relationship, the jury was told in the high-profile defamation lawsuit of the former couple.
The Aquarius The actress was subjected to a tense cross-examination by Mr. Depp’s attorney at the courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia, on Tuesday, where she was grilled over her allegations that her ex-husband allegedly abused her several times.

Ms Heard claimed the abuse started early in their relationship in 2011 before there was “a hiatus” in 2012.
“Is that the knife you gave to the man who assaulted you?” the lawyer asked.
Mrs. Heard replied that she did not believe he would stab her with a knife.
“I wasn’t afraid he would stab me,” she told the court.
The court had previously heard about the knife, which is inscribed with the words “hasta la muerte” – meaning “until death” in Spanish.
Psychologist Dr Daswn Hughes was previously questioned by Mr. Depp’s legal team about whether someone “feared for her life” would gift it to his partner.
The doctor told the court that there is “context” and that she believed that Ms. Heard bought the knife as “a nice gift”.
“The phraseology is that Mr. Depp told her that ‘the only way out of this relationship is death,'” Dr. Hughes said.
The psychologist said that Ms. Heard was in “denial” about the “violence in the relationship” at the time.
Depp is suing his ex-wife for libel over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post where she described herself as a “public figure who represents domestic violence”.

However, Depp claims that it falsely implies that he is a domestic abuser – something he vehemently denies – and that as a result, he struggles to land roles in Hollywood. He demands $50 million.
Ms. Heard is suing for $100 million, accusing Mr. Depp of organizing a “smear campaign” against her and describing his lawsuit as a continuation of “abuse and harassment.”
