Here’s something you might not know about me, even if you’re a regular reader of my Forbes blog: I’ve been a pro wrestling fan for most of my life. I’m also a big fan of overwatchso I was excited to see Team 4 splice those two worlds together for the latest Overwatch League skin.
This time, Blizzard selected Reaper for the OWL skin treatment in honor of the Kickoff Clash. His new look is called Luchador Reaper and it is the first OWL tournament skin of 2022.
I have to say, while I don’t tend to play the Reaper man unless that’s the character I’m playing in Mystery Heroes, this is an instant buy for me.
The skin is, as you might expect, a tribute to the lucha libre culture. Luchador Reaper has wrestling boots, tights, a cape, a championship title and other nods to Mexican wrestling. He also has a luchador mask. Lead concept artist David Kang chose to include a skull motif, which is a reference to both the Day of the Dead holiday and other aspects of Reaper’s character.
As with other Overwatch League skins, you cannot unlock Luchador Reaper with credits in the Hero Gallery. You won’t see it in loot boxes either.
Instead, you need to collect 200 Overwatch League Tokens. Buying that number of tokens will cost you about $10, but there is a way you can earn free tokens.
All you need to do is connect your Battle.net account to YouTube and watch live Overwatch League matches. You typically earn five tokens per hour viewed. Duplicate tokens will be awarded for select matches, although there are currently no eligible tokens on the OWL site.
Remember that you can earn tokens by watching official replay streams as well. The Overwatch League website has the full schedule.
You can learn more about how to set things up here:
Once you have 200 OWL tokens, you can buy the skin in overwatch† You need to go to the Overwatch League menu and then select the OWL logo at the bottom.
You have to act pretty fast if you want the Luchador Reaper skin. It will only be available until June 25. The good news is that there will be a lot of OWL games in the next two weeks as games in the East region have been delayed. That means there are many more opportunities to earn tokens.
The Kickoff Clash tournament will take place between June 2 and June 5. Meanwhile, I pounce on enemies from above to deliver a Death Blossom as Luchador Reaper. Oh, and I’ll pretend to be the coolest luchador in the world, Pentagón Jr/Pentagon Dark/Penta Oscuro (he has many names).
