Escape Tarkov Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR Scaling

Graphics upscaling is the game industry standard these days, and it looks like Escape From Tarkov will be one of the last to receive it.

In this modern era of video games, graphics fidelity is becoming increasingly important with much of the industry turning to new technologies to enhance the visuals. With AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 on the way and Nvidia still providing its own Deep Learning Super Sampling equivalent to many titles, scaling resolutions using AI is quickly becoming the standard for gaming. Sometimes it is possible to scale up afterwards, and that applies for example to Battlestate Games’ Escape from Tarkov which will be updated soon.

According to a recent report from WCCFTech, the PC multiplayer FPS is expected to receive Nvidia’s DLSS, Escape from Tarkov this week. It goes on to say that there will be four upscaling options for players once the update goes live. These range from disabling DLSS completely to scaling quality, balanced or performance-based scaling. During a Twitch stream, CEO Nikita Buyanov said this update “passed the testing phase”, and a demonstration of DLSS in action can be seen in the video at around 30 minutes.

It’s also possible that the game will get AMD’s FSR technology, which works similarly to DLSS. However, it is likely that this will be much further. Known as one of the most brutal survival games on the market today, Escape from Tarkov has received positive reviews. It was originally released as an open beta in 2016, but moved to a closed beta in July 2017, which is available to anyone who pre-orders the game.

There are countless ways that studios can improve the graphics of their games beyond the actual design and high-end texture phase, with upscaling being one of the most common methods that can be used to improve clarity without straining the hardware. Ray tracing is another video game standard, which was also planned for Escape from Tarkov back in January.

With games like Red Dead Redemption 2 Using Nvidia’s DLSS, many developers and publishers find its implementation a necessary step in the development cycle, even if it comes in the form of a patch post launch. Redrawing pixels on the screen to increase the resolution so that it is comparable to doing it natively allows the game to run at a higher frame rate, with sharper images, using algorithms. Even in a punishing game like Escape from Tarkov, the studio seems to understand the importance of visual clarity. Hopefully there will be more news about FSR someday.

Escape from Tarkov is currently in Early Access on PC.
